Anabas testudineus (Bloch, 1975)

English Name - Climbing Perch
Sinhala Name - කාවයියා / පොල් කාවයියා  


An indigenous fish species distributed in lowlands of went and dry zones in Sri Lanka.
Climbing Perch recorded from wide variety of habitats ranging from clear water streams to polluted urban canals. This fish uses pelvic fin spines to wiggle in ground during heavy rain that led to its name "Climbing Perch". The sexes are similar in appearance. That is a popular fish for human consumption and listed as a Least Concern species in the national red list 2012.
